How to Price Moving Services

Local movers charge by the hour per mover with a minimum of several hours, and long-distance movers charge by weight or a flat rate. Packing, stairs, long carries and specialty items are extra. Here are the published rates, what moves a quote, and a worked example.

Typical prices for moving services

These are consumer-facing figures from 2026 cost guides, not rules. They show where the market sits so you can tell whether your price is far above or below it.

The sources disagree a lot, partly because they count different things. Thumbtack's national averages are far below Angi's and HomeGuide's, and Angi's Los Angeles page lists about $94 per mover per hour against its $80 national average. Compare several sources and your local competitors before you set a rate.

What moves the price

Check the price against your costs

Add paid labor for every mover including loading, unloading and drive time, plus truck cost, fuel, insurance, equipment wear and overhead. Divide by the crew hours you can really bill. See how to calculate labor cost and your overhead rate, and use the hourly rate calculator to find your floor.

A worked quote

A two-bedroom local move with two movers and a truck, using example rates (yours will differ). The crew rate is 2 × $75 = $150.00 per hour, for 4 hours: 4 × $150 = $600.00. Disassembling and reassembling beds and a table takes half an hour of one mover at $100 per hour, which is $50.00. The customer buys 20 boxes at $3, which is $60.00.

Crew, 2 movers × $75 × 4 hours$600.00
Furniture disassembly, 0.5 hour × $100$50.00
Packing boxes, 20 × $3$60.00
Total$710.00

Check it against the market: $75 per mover per hour sits inside HomeGuide's $50 to $100+ range and near Angi's $80 average, 4 hours is inside the common 3 to 5 hour minimum, $100 per hour is inside Angi's $50 to $150 disassembly range, $3 per box is inside the $2 to $20 supplies range, and $710 is inside the $300 to $1,500 and $900 to $2,800 local totals. These figures are examples, not recommended prices.
